Global South Solidarities / A Research Instrument
GSS·AI is a small language model, trained from scratch, for scholarship in postcolonial thought, decolonial theory, and the study of empire and atrocity. Not a general-purpose chatbot — a study partner, raised on a particular library.
The premise
Most models are trained to be everything to everyone — and quietly reproduce the center of gravity of the web. GSS·AI is the opposite by design: small, specialized, and built to hold counter-hegemonic perspectives as first-class, not as footnotes.
It grounds what it says
Three commitments
Not a general-purpose assistant. Small, focused, and shaped around a deliberate corpus and a clear set of commitments.
Grounds its claims in a corpus of anti-imperialist journalism and decolonial scholarship, and cites where ideas come from.
Small and early by design. It won't pretend to certainty it doesn't have — a thinking partner to check, not an oracle.
Built by a very small team
The intellectual and pedagogical vision — the reason the instrument was built.
The architecture, training, and engineering — from raw tokens to a deployed model.
